All posts in the topic Blocking Disposable Email Addresses
I have made a small attempt to block disposable email addresses. Committed (but
not deployed on OnlineGroups.Net, as it is Friday) is code to check a new email
address, to ensure that it does not come from a “disposable email-address
provider”. Such temporary addresses are created and disposed of automatically,
so spammers cannot track you.
Unfortunately, disposable addresses mean that *we* cannot track you; that is a
Bad Thing™. OnlineGroups.Net was hit by someone using a disposable address to
gain posting-privileges to our site, and using that privilege to send out spam.
In the future I will implement a challenge-response system, where GroupServer
randomly marks an address as unverified an requires the user to reverify. This
is the same future where I have a flying car — and a group that encrypts all
messages, and requires all messages to be encrypted.
This site is provided by OnlineGroups.Net, where you can start your own free online groups site, using the open source web-based mailing list manager GroupServer.
