I have made a start on 'Re-think Group Properties'
<https://projects.iopen.net/groupserver/ticket/476>
Currently a group has a bunch of descriptive properties. The properties
are configurable by the Site Administrator on the "Edit the general
group properties" page.
Currently the properties are shown in the following places.
Email Posts
- Subject
Site Home Latest Topics, Search Results and Profile
- Title
Groups Page
- Title
- Real Life Group
(Legacy) Group Home Page
- Title
- Real Life Group
Charter
- Owner
- Real Life Group
- Purpose
- Date Open
- Date Closed
- Membership Definition
- Required Protocol Items
- Encouraged Protocol Items
I propose we reduce this to four properties.
- Subject Line Prefix -- Shown in the subject line of email posts.
- Group Title -- Shown on the Site Home Latest Topics, Search Results,
Profile, Groups page and Group Home Page.
- Short Description -- Who and what the online group is for. Shown on
the Groups page and the Group Home Page (above the "US Bar").
- Membership Criterion -- Who may be invited to join the group in
future. Shown for private and secret groups on the Privacy tab on Group
Home Page. This is important as it tells group members who may be able
to read their posts in future. It is also useful for people requesting
membership, as it allows them to say why they think they should be let in.
In addition, group members should be able to identify the site admin,
group admin and, for announcement groups, the posting members. The new
members directory should take care of these.
