Hi All,
I have recently pushed up code that allows people to request membership
of a private group. This update forms the core of the Eskimo Pie release
of GroupServer¹.
The way the system works is a bit like an Invitation in reverse. First,
the applicant signs up, using the normal system. Then he or she fills
out a request to join the group, as shown in request.png below. After
filling out the message and clicking Request the system will store a
request for the user.
The administrators then get an email that contains
* A link to the profile page of the applicant,
* The email address of the applicant,
* The message from the applicant, and
* A link to the Respond page.
The link to the profile page will allow the administrator to find out
more about each applicant. In addition the administrator can use the
email address of the applicant to ask for more information.
The Respond page looks similar to response.png below. The page can handle
multiple membership requests, each shown in its own section. For each
membership request it contains the same information as the corresponding
email message. In addition it lists the option to accept or decline each
application. Selecting Accept and clicking the Respond button will make
the applicant a group member.
