Hello Team
First can I congratulate you on making Online Groups easier to use.
Taking a que from Dan, I've begun to re-explore the use of OLG making
many tiny groups.
The problem I'm having is that when I create a new topic, the first
post isn't properly processed by Firefox. The post simply hangs in the
browser.
If I open a new tab in "topics" I can see that the post has been
processed.
Not sure if this applies to other posts too.
Hi John,
Thanks for your feedback and question. I can't get that fault to occur
for me. Are you creating the first topic in a new group when you get the
problem, or does this problem occur when adding a topic to a group that
already has topics?
Also, could you please explain what you mean by "the post simply hangs
in the browser." The expected behaviour is that you get a fresh "Start a
Topic" form, with a system message saying "Message posted."

The problem does not only apply to first posts.
The tab in my browser say's "Loading" and there is no response form the
server saying "message posted".
I waited until I got the email telling me the message was available.
The page was still hanging.
Moreover when I clicked on the email message to view the post on the
web, the post wouldn't open.
I shut down the original tab, went in through the home page. Then the
post opened fine.
Now the post will also open using the link in the email.

Hi John:
Could you provide us with a little more information -- what browser and
browser version are you using, and on what platform?
Best regards,

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.14)
Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14
I just retested the process.
Made a new post.
My browser hangs as before.
Go to email - Look for the post there. Appears 3 minutes later.
Click on the link in the email to the new post. It works. (Previously
this was hanging too.)
Original tab still hanging showing no response from the server.
Hi John,
I am sorry you are having difficulty posting. It looks like it will be a hard
bug to track down: I have never experienced the problem — and I typically post
from the Web to ensure it is going ☺ To help all of us track down the problem,
could you please confirm the following?
1. Your browser never returns (hangs) when you try and post by
* Starting a new topic, and
* Adding a post to an existing topic.
2. Left to its own devices, your browser gets a timeout error.
3. The browser you are using is Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14, running
on Microsoft Windows XP.
4. You *always* get an email message when you post.
5. You are not running an http-proxy server on your own network.
I can see from our logs that my fourth point should be a lie: a duplicate-post
has been detected from you on at least one occasion, and that should not have
resulted in an error. Can you confirm this?
Kind regards,
Michael

Sorry, the duplicate-post *should* have resulted in an error.

Correct.
2. Left to its own devices, your browser gets a timeout error.
No it sits inactive - nothing happens in the browser, even thought the
post has been logged at OLG and the email has been sent to that effect.
3. The browser you are using is Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14, running
on Microsoft Windows XP.
Yes
4. You *always* get an email message when you post.
I think so, that's never been a problem.
5. You are not running an http-proxy server on your own network.
I am running Trend Micro Internet Security. I looked to see if that was
the problem.
I turrned off ALL the Trend Micro protections, and restarted the
computer.
Opened the browser, and sent a message. Same problem.
Let me try Internet Explorer. System works on IE.
The post took about 30 seconds to process, but the screen did return to
the posting page showing the new post

I may have stopped the browser and reposted, when I wasn't sure what
was happening.
Hello All
Good news.
Today Firefox is processing the posts as it should.
So did someone do something?
Or is this just fate?
Hi John,
I am really glad that posting is working for you!
We did not do anything, as far as I know. I have been working on another
project, and had not had time to look into the oddities that have been
plaguing your attempts at posting using the Web interface.
Kind regards,
Michael

I posted two replies today. Neither of them were successfully processed.
Later in the day I also used a tab to access one of my groups and I
couldn't get in. The page wouldn't load.
Then I realised that those two tabs I used earlier in the day were
still "hanging" so I closed them.
Returning to the tab with the page that wouldn't open. Now it will.
